On February 24, 2017, Friday Night Folk at All Souls will host the 4th annual Pete Seeger Tribute concert concert, this year benefiting START FRESH, Inc. New London, a refugee resettlement organization responding to the humanitarian crisis resulting from the regional conflict in Syria.

“We at Start Fresh celebrate the lives of three families that have escaped the humanitarian crisis of war and now have homes here in New London. The continued goodwill of those that contribute time and money will make the way for other families to find a better life in our community.” – Start Fresh Co-leader Ron Ward

Many fine local acoustic musicians will gather to take turns sharing their versions of Pete’s songs, songs he loved, and songs about him, including Hugh Birdsall, The Carolans, Nick Evento, Kristen Graves, Golden Ratio, Geoff Kaufman, Ben & Nancy Parent, Ted Phillips, The Raging Grannies, and Baird Welch-Collins. Geoff Kaufman, who spent time with Pete over many years aboard the Hudson River sloop Clearwater, will emcee the evening as well as perform.

“For nearly 70 years as a performer, Pete Seeger has embodied the ideals of folk music – communication, entertainment, social comment, historical continuity, inclusiveness. The songs he has written, and those he has discovered and shared, have helped preserve our cultural heritage, imprinting adults and children with the sounds, traditions and values of our global past and present. A fearless warrior for social justice and the environment, Pete’s political activism – from the Civil Rights movement and anti-McCarthyism to resistance to fascism and the wars in Vietnam and the Middle East – has become the template for subsequent generations of musicians and ordinary citizens with something to say about the world.” – PeteSeegerMusic.com
